This is a first rate concert level Karaj/Pancham (Ravi Shankar style) sitar featuring the Angurpatta (grape leaf) design all the way up the neck of the tumba. Made by Barun Ray, it is crafted from select aged tun wood with monochrome penwork, 13 inlaid taraf (sympathetic) pegs and seven lotus main pegs. The bridges are a special synthetic, developed by Hiren’s son, which produce a very rich sound. The upper tumba (gourd) is natural with a wood join to the neck. Exceptional attention to detail and superb craftsmanship make this an instrument that can last a lifetime. Son of the legendary Hiren Roy, Barun Ray has certainly lived up to his father’s reputation and has furthered the development of his instruments. The price includes a fiberglass flight case.
